Position Announcement: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor

Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine (ISU CVM), Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) invites nominations and applications for a full time tenured or tenure-track position in veterinary toxicology. Applications will be accepted at the levels of assistant, associate, or full professor. The position will be based in the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (ISU VDL). The ISU VDL is an AAVLD-accredited, full-service laboratory that serves veterinary practitioners and animal owners of Iowa and the Midwestern region. The caseload is diverse with food animal species representing the majority of submissions. The position will have a major commitment of effort towards applied toxicological and/or nutritional research in addition to providing diagnostic support through coordination of toxicology cases submitted to the ISU VDL. The person in this position will also have opportunities to teach veterinary toxicology in the veterinary and graduate curriculum and mentor graduate students.

Required Qualifications:

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: DVM or equivalent degree, demonstrated expertise in toxicology, pathology or related field, and a minimum of a masters degree in an appropriate discipline.

ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR: In addition to the qualifications listed above, a record of scholarship in a discipline of toxicology, pathology or related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in veterinary toxicology or a related field
  • Board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Veterinary Toxicologists (ABVT) or American Board of Toxicology (ABT)
  • Experience in food animal toxicological or nutritional research
  • National and international distinction and reputation for outstanding contributions in the field of diagnostic medicine
  • Working knowledge and experience with food animal agriculture and production medicine
  • with stakeholders in the food animal industry
  • Experience in the instruction of veterinary students and mentorship of graduate students.
