Position Announcement: Veterinary Diagnostic Pathologist for Food Animals and Poultry

The Veterinary Population Medicine Department at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, is recruiting a veterinary diagnostic pathologist. This position will be an annually renewable academic professional at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Specialist. The final rank and terms of appointment will depend on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate consistent with collegiate and University policies.

The candidate must have a doctorate of veterinary medicine (DVM) or equivalent foreign degree; ACVP board-certified or board-eligibility by the start date is preferred, and a PhD degree is also desired. Desired experience would include a demonstrated commitment to food animal and poultry diagnostic service, teaching, and collaborative research in veterinary pathology. Additionally, the ideal applicant would have prior experience in private veterinary practice, provided diagnostic service in veterinary diagnostic laboratories, a history of teaching in veterinary medicine and pathology, as well as a research career as a principal investigator or collaborative research experience, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications.

This position is primarily responsible for conducting diagnostic investigations on Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory food animal accessions (e.g. swine, bovine, poultry, ovine, and farmed cervids) and to communicate results to clinical faculty, practicing veterinarians, researchers, and animal owners. Additional duties include teaching pathology (lectures and laboratories) to professional and graduate students/residents, teaching pathology rotations to senior DVM students, and participation in collaborative research. The actual time commitment to each of these duties is negotiable.

The Veterinary Population Medicine Department serves as the academic home to faculty members in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The College of Veterinary Medicine is located on the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota and has a reputation for excellence in basic and translational research programs. Particular research strengths include: genetics, genomics, molecular immunology, and infectious diseases. Opportunities exist for collaboration with Schools of Medicine and Public Health of the University.
