Position Announcement: Residency/PhD Training Position in Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University invites applications for a combined residency/ PhD training position in Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology within the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic Production Animal Medicine. The 3-year training program begins May 1, 2015. The program combines veterinary clinical pharmacology residency training with an emphasis on food animals with state-of-the-art training in biomedical research leading to the PhD degree. The training program emphasizes drug residue testing, antimicrobial pharmacology and animal welfare research, primarily focused on pain management and stress mitigation in livestock. Training will involve a mix of field research and laboratory analysis in a fully accredited diagnostic laboratory (http://vetmed.iastate.edu/diagnostic-lab/cycads). Trainees will be eligible for American College of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology (ACVCP) certification upon completion of the program and are highly recruited for positions in academia, pharmaceutical research, contract research organizations and regulatory agencies.

Training occurs under the guidance of a faculty member board certified in veterinary clinical pharmacology and animal welfare and 3 PhD-level analytical chemists. An annual stipend of approximately $35,000 and tuition for the PhD program will be provided.

Applicants must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have a minimum of 1-year of postgraduate experience. The successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be highly creative, and highly self-motivated. The ability to work independently, as well as with a diverse research group is critical to this position. To ensure consideration, submit application by 15 February 2015.

Required Qualifications: DVM degree or equivalent with a minimum of 1-year of postgraduate experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working in a research environment. Evidence of prior publications and some chemistry experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
