Position Announcement: Senior Technical Support Manager, Swine

DSM seeks a DVM to serve as Senior Technical Support Manager, Swine. The successful candidate will support the DSM sales team and provide technical support for assigned sales products including securing orders for products, investigating customer requirements for product applications, investigating and resolving problems, and providing technical interface between customer and company. The work location is open and includes the entire mid west US, which is the territory as well. This is a remote position that requires about 60% travel.

The Position

  • Defining product positioning & marketing strategies that generate sales of innovative and technically complicated products.
  • Creating product value for existing products by developing new markets and differentiating DNP products from competitive commodity products.
  • Participating in the development and execution of customer action plans.
  • Generating new business revenue by overcoming customer blockages and initiating the prospect-to-order process through technical persuasion and sales support.
  • Executing a role as the Company’s technical ambassador through technical presentations at industry meetings & academic symposia, technical publications, issue-pertinent fact sheets, participating in industry-specific committees and organizations and developing ANH sales training opportunities and tools for value-added marketing and sales campaigns.
  • Developing customer “partnerships” within the Americas and globally by getting involved in customer and industry issues that impact their business.
  • Capturing the customers’ business vision in order to keep ANH in the forefront on value-linked product innovations and NBD/ANH focused on fulfilling its strategic mission goals by relaying information through appropriate channels.
  • Design, monitor, analyze and reports on research and clinical studies.

The Challenge

  • Define product position & marketing strategies that generate sales of innovative and technically complicated products.
  • Create product value for existing products by developing new markets and differentiating DNP products from competitive commodity products.
  • Participate in the development and execution of the NBD customer action plans. Support Marketing Plan of Action by working directly with assigned salesperson(s) to develop a plan for targeted influencers and work to provide professional support to targeted and key accounts. Implements and completes targeted plans. Responsible for joint communication between sales and technical services for assessment progress.
  • Assists with attaining new business by overcoming customer blockages and initiating the prospect to order process through technical persuasion and sales support.
  • Execute a role as the Company’s technical ambassador through technical presentations at industry meetings & academic symposia, technical publications, issue-pertinent fact sheets, participating in industry-specific committees and organizations and developing ANH sales training opportunities and tools for value-added marketing and sales campaigns. Provides an on-going program of training sales force within specified territory on 1) how to utilize technical literature, 2) new programs and practices relating to DSM products, 3) the correct positioning of DSM products in the market and new Health and Nutrition challenges of the target
  • Support existing DNP business in a technical role by providing solution-oriented investigations into customers’ issues. Provide technical support for assigned sales products including securing orders for products, investigating customer requirements for product applications, investigating and resolving problems, and providing technical interface between customer and company. Develops and contacts with established and potential customers, maintain files, records and other literature on new products.
  • Capture the customers’ business vision in order to keep ANH in the forefront on value-linked product innovations and NBD/ANH focused on fulfilling its strategic mission goals by relaying information through appropriate channels.
  • Provide field evaluation related to AN&H products and provides recommendations to end user or related industry influencers (feed manufacturers, live production managers, veterinarians, nutritionists, etc.) to correct deficiencies or maximize benefits of DSM products. Acts as professional and technical consultant in support of activities assigned to Marketing and Sales of Animal Health products. Reports orally or in writing the activities that occur within the area of assignment and technical expertise.

The Ideal

  • DVM required.
  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience in a technical/scientific role, preferably in an animal production environment. Must be able to translate scientific knowledge to commercial applications. Sales or marketing experience a definite plus.
  • In order to execute the mission and objectives, the person in this position will require in addition to professional skills and industry experiences, organizational management, team-building and social skills. These skills are crucial to be successful in influencing key intra-departmental and inter-departmental decision-makers that drive internal objectives that impact the key areas of accountability. Articulate, direct and the ability to read the audience would describe the language and conversational skills needed to discuss and explain complex technical information to a broad range of individuals from business management to production and farm managers; from scientists and academicians to students and the general public.
