Position Announcement: Senior Vice President of Science and Technology

The National Pork Board is seeking a dynamic Senior Vice President of Science and Technology. This position will require an innovative leader to oversee the development and coordination of all Science and Technology department programs as they relate to pork production. This includes swine health, animal welfare, production sciences, pork safety and quality, producer and public health and sustainability. This person will have regular communication with pork producers, veterinarians, press, academia and researchers, and state and federal officials. S/he will direct long range planning on National Pork Board programs related to Science and Technology Department Program Areas. This leader should be driven by a desire for continuous improvement and be a champion for change. Knowledge of National Pork Board Policies/Practices is helpful.

The Senior VP will have heavy involvement with producer leadership and staff management in the execution of National Pork Board’s policies, strategic plan and mission.

The ideal candidate will leverage their connections with Land Grant Universities and private industry research efforts to further the mission of the National Pork Board. Applicants should have a minimum 10 years pork industry experience, with demonstrated success in leading staff, strategic and long range planning and communicating on technical pork industry issues with a variety of academic, state and federal regulatory and public audiences.

A DVM or advanced animal or meat science degree, or equivalent technical and industry experience is preferred.

The National Pork Board has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects and for communicating with pork producers and the public. The Pork Checkoff funds national and state programs in advertising, consumer information, retail and food service marketing, export market promotion, production and education and science and technology. Applicants should be able to support the mission of the organization with enthusiasm to serve US pork producers.

This position requires considerable travel domestically and abroad (up to 70 percent).
