Obituary: Janet Brumm

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing on June 21 of Janet Brumm, the wife of AASV member Dr. Mike Brumm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary with a 7:00 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service Thursday morning. A second memorial service will be held Friday June 26, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 4:00 p.m. in Wayne, Nebraska. Burial will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Janet Marie Montag was born August 20, 1947 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to George and Minerva (Bachman) Montag. Janet’s life was all about her family and education. Janet graduated high school in 1965 from St. Mary’s Academy in Prairie du Chien, WI. From there she went on to Wayne State College and graduated in 1969. Janet was able to pass along her love of reading to many students when she was a librarian in Council Bluffs, Emerson and Carroll, IA from 1969 – 1975. In 1976, Janet graduated with a Masters in Library Science from Emporia State University, Emporia, KS. She worked as a librarian with Wayne State College in Wayne, NE from 1976 - 2006. She married Michael Brumm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne, Nebraska May 9, 1981. Together, the couple raised four children. She loved to spend time with her kids teaching them the values of humility and patience. She was a big advocate for those with disabilities and was her daughter Liz’s biggest supporter. She loved to watch Liz play in Miracle League and was always improving opportunities for those with disabilities. Janet loved reading, playing games and baking with her grandchildren. Janet was able to travel around the world with her husband Michael seeing many amazing sites. They loved to spend several weeks in the summer road tripping across the country with their kids when they were younger. Janet was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan and caught a game at the stadium with Mike every summer.
