Full Description

The University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine and Commercial Agriculture Program invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Extension Professor of Swine Production Medicine. This is full-time, non-tenure track position with responsibilities with the Commercial Agriculture Program (as a joint appointment in the Division of Animal Sciences) and in in the Department of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.

The faculty member will serve as a member of the Swine Focus Team, an interdisciplinary group of animal scientists, economists, engineers, nutritionists, geneticists and veterinarians who conduct applied research and develop and deliver advanced educational programs and seminars to swine veterinarians, swine producers, and allied industries in Missouri. The team also provides on-site consultation to the commercial swine industry and associated agri-businesses. As the veterinary medicine component of the team, this person will be responsible for developing state-wide programs related to swine health and production. Importantly, the faculty member will contribute to teaching in the veterinary curriculum, engage students in learning opportunities in swine production and medicine, and will serve as an interface for swine veterinarians and producers with the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent and eligibility for regular license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Missouri, eligibility for Federal Accreditation and a valid driver’s license. Experience with swine production through private, academic, or corporate practice is required. Qualifications include experience in swine medicine, knowledge of swine production and health methods and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Board certification in a clinical specialty and/or advanced degrees are desirable.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be assessed based upon educational and professional achievement. Experience, communication skills, organizational skills, experience working effectively in diverse environments, and letters of reference will all be considered in selection of a candidate. Potential for the candidate to work within the academic and extension frameworks will be assessed.
