Pittman Awarded 2015 Science in Practice Award

Jeremy S. Pittman, DVM, has been named the recipient of the 2015 Allen D. Leman Science in Practice Award. The award was presented by Zoetis at the 2015 Allen D. Leman Swine Conference, hosted by the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, Minnesota. The award is given annually to a veterinarian who is dedicated to research and applies scientific knowledge to help improve the pork industry.

Dr. Pittman is a staff veterinarian for Murphy-Brown, LLC – North Division, which manages 105,000 sows farrow-to-finish in Northeastern North Carolina, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Dr. Pittman also serves on Murphy-Brown’s research and development team, which uses a science based approach to improve production, health and business performance throughout its operations worldwide.

Dr. Pittman graduated from North Carolina State University (NCSU) in 2000 with degrees in Zoology and Animal Science. In 2004, he received his DVM from NCSU and started his career with Murphy-Brown, LLC. Dr. Pittman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Swine Health Management) and serves as adjunct faculty at the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine.

In 2011, Dr. Pittman was named one of Pfizer’s Top 10 Under 40 swine veterinarians. Dr. Pittman was awarded a co-recipient of the 2011 AASV Alex Hogg Scholarship, which he used to complete a Master’s degree in Veterinary Preventative Medicine at Iowa State University in 2014.
