Position Announcement: Asst or Assoc Professor, Swine Production Science

The University of Illinois seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor for a full-time, tenure-track position (9 months; 50% Research, 50% Teaching) in Swine Production Science in the Department of Animal Sciences.

Responsibilities:

The Department of Animal Sciences seeks a candidate who will hold an appointment in teaching (50%) and research (50%). It is expected that the successful candidate will develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program emphasizing an area within swine production science, direct graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and advise and interact with undergraduate students. The research, teaching and outreach opportunities for this position reside in the integration of animal sciences disciplines that affect swine production such as: nutrition, genetics, reproduction, intestinal health, immunology, growth, and environmental physiology. The successful candidate will collaborate with existing swine scientists, compete effectively for private and public research funds, and participate in the public service mission of the university. The successful candidate will participate in teaching appropriate courses in swine science and their area of discipline expertise.

Qualifications:

PhD degree in Animal Science or a closely related field, a commitment to teaching, and an ability to establish an externally funded, nationally and internationally-recognized program of research in Swine Production Science. Candidates with post-doctoral or industry experience are also encouraged to apply.

The anticipated starting date for the position is August 16, 2016.

The Department of Animal Sciences maintains 2 swine research units and opportunities for collaborations with the commercial swine production sector are possible. Successful candidates will be provided with excellent laboratory facilities and collaborations with faculty in multiple disciplines associated with production science are encouraged (nutrition, meat science, immunology, behavior, reproduction, health, and housing).
