Position Announcement: Director of Pork Safety

The National Pork Board, located in Clive, IA, is seeking a dynamic person to act as our Director of Pork Safety. This position will be responsible for providing technical support for the National Pork Board’s food safety and pork quality efforts. This would include developing the industry’s pre and post-harvest food safety research agenda, interacting with packers, processors, and other segments of the pork chain on quality issues and serving as a liaison with public health audiences. This position would also provide food safety and pork quality information to state pork associations and others as needed, and assist to resolve international food safety issues.

Requirements for this position include the ability to communicate professionally both orally and in written form with a wide variety of audiences. An M.S. or Ph.D. in Food Science or Veterinary Microbiology/Microbiology or Meat Science or associate discipline is required. Demonstrated experience and research in the food and/or Pork industry including application of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Principles (HACCP) is desirable.

This position requires moderate travel nationally and internationally and a valid driver’s license and driving record is required.

The National Pork Board has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects and for communicating with pork producers and the public. The Pork Checkoff funds national and state programs in advertising, consumer information, retail and foodservice marketing, export market promotion, production improvement, technology, swine health, pork safety and environmental management.
