Abstract:Use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect vertical transmission of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) in piglets from gilt littersScott A. Dee DVM, PhD, Dipl, ACVM; Reid E. Philips DVMComplete article is available online. PDF version is available online. This case summarizes the use of molecular diagnostics for determiningthe pattern of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus(PRRSV) transmission in piglets after birth and whether transmissionwas related to herd parity. We also assessed the effectivenessof the recommended intervention strategy in controlling viralshedding.
