CSF Continues to Spread in South Africa

An outbreak of Classical Swine Fever (CSF, Hog Cholera) first reported in August, 2005, has continued to spread and farmers are questioning the government’s ability to control it.

Officials announced the latest outbreak in 600 pigs located on a farm in KwaNobuhle in Uitenhage in the Nelson Mandela Metro on March 13, 2006. The pigs will be culled on March 15th. The latest report to OIE, dated December 14, 2005, included 33 outbreaks exposing 150,000 pigs.
