Position Announcement: Executive Director

The Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians (CASV) is searching for an Executive Director to be responsible for the organizational support and the continuity of its mission “to be a responsive, proactive voice for veterinarians involved in the swine industry in Canada.”

This is a national position requiring communication with regional swine veterinary associations in Canada and with stakeholders in the swine industry across Canada. The focus of the position is to provide organizational support for the CASV directors, to assist with the development of projects, and collaborate with industry partners.

This position is part time (approximately 8-10 hours per week) with a contract to be renewed on an annual basis by the Board of Directors.

Reports directly to the CASV President and Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative support and Information transfer

  • Formulate and manage the work plan under the direction of the CASV
  • Prepare for annual meeting and conference calls: prepare the agenda of the monthly conference calls of the executive, prepare the annual report of activities presented at the AGM, annual elections, and act as a resource person during the meetings.
  • Informing the Executive on the status of the different issues/projects.
  • Gather the documentation needed to manage the issues/projects.
  • Ensure the proper dissemination of information within the association for its optimal functioning.
  • Working on any current issue seen as a priority by the Executive/Association and update the Executive on progress.
  • Plan, manage and coordinate the drafting of report or answer to any organizations seeking the views of the Association.
  • Act as a resource person within the various committees and during the meetings of the Executive Committee.
  • Set up various ad hoc committees of CASV in collaboration with the Executive.
  • Assist, as needed, to the various ad hoc committees, offer technical support and write report.
  • Assist, as needed, to the organization of continuing education meetings

Direct services to members

  • Answering questions from members.
  • Inform members on all matters which may concern them.
  • Defending the interests of the members with different organizations or associations.

Representation

  • Ability to establish and maintain connections/relationships with various industry partners (networking).
  • Be the first communication line of CASV
  • Attend specified events
  • Fostering good relations with educational and research institutions

Financial Management

  • Manage the day to day finances of the CASV
  • Work with treasurer and finance committee as a resource as required

Requirements:

  • Veterinarian eligible to practice in Canada preferred
  • 3+ years in swine health management
  • Possess a strong network within the Canadian swine industry (e.g. CASV, CFI, research and educational institutions, etc.)
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and within a committee structure
  • Bilingualism is desirable
  • Flexibility in availability is critical, needs or demands in terms of time are not static and/or predictable during the year.
