AASV welcomes Dr. Brooke Smith to the veterinary profession! Dr. Smith received her DVM as well as a PhD in Swine Nutrition from the University of Illinois through the Veterinary Medical Scholars Program in May of 2022. Her PhD was completed under Ryan Dilger in the Animal Science Department in May of 2020 and focused on soy bioactives and their influence as a nutritional intervention on the growth and clinical response of PRRSV infected pigs. Dr. Smith has accepted a position as a Swine Nutritionist with the Cargill Animal Health and Nutrition Swine Technical Services Team, where her role includes consulting on and formulating customer diets with a strong focus on understanding current health status and the interactions between health and nutrition. She also collaborates often with Cargill’s Swine Innovation Team to identify health-related areas of research and aid in trial design.
