Prospecting Auction Raises $110,745 for the AASV Foundation

The foundation’s annual auction fundraiser was held on March 3 during the AASV Annual Meeting at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in the “golden state” of California. The very successful event was coordinated by the 2025 Auction Committee, led by co-chairs Drs. Chase Stahl and John Waddell.

Electronic bidding for silent auction items opened on ClickBid in February and continued during the meeting until the evening of Monday, March 3. A slide show of the silent auction items and a leaderboard kept attendees apprised of the current winning bidder for each item. In the end, the 49 silent auction items generated $9,890 in winning bids. As in previous years, donors ship the items directly to the winning bidders.

For the second year, auctioneer Kent Andersen teamed up on stage with Dr. Chase Stahl and the dynamic duo quickly got the live auction bidding underway. They were assisted by bid spotters Drs. Will Fombelle, Deanne Hemker, Henry Johnson, Andy Kryzer, Jana Morgan, Maryn Ptaschinski, Jon Van Blarcom, and John Waddell, who worked the crowd to capture and call out bids.

Several first-time offerings drew strong interest from bidders, with a drone camera bundle selling for $3,000 and the Napa Valley Rail and Sky Adventure netting $6,000. The bidding was spirited for the Kansas City Chiefs tickets and lodging package, which sold for $4,000. The tailgate paloozas continued to be popular: the football tickets and tailgate parties hosted at schools across the country (University of Illinois, Iowa State University, and University of Minnesota) generated $9,500 in total proceeds. The top-selling item was the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab Training and Credit, which brought $7,000.

When it was “all-in, all-done,” the live auction items raised $54,500! Added to the $9,890 in silent auction proceeds and an additional $46,455 in monetary contributions, the event generated a grand total of $110,745 to support scholarships, research grants, travel stipends, externship grants, student debt relief grants, and more.
