BI: The Problem is Dynamic. So is the Solution. Start Applying the Science

From the Director of Communications

Following Dr. Harry Snelson's 1,500 plus weekly AASV e-Letters, I want to take a spot in my first e-Letter to thank him for his many years of service as Director of Communications, and his years to come as the Executive Director.

I am thrilled to take on this role for AASV. It's an exciting, busy, and challenging time for swine veterinarians. We face challenges with preserving medically necessary antibiotic use in food animals while protecting public health. Foreign animal diseases are knocking at our door. Consumer wants and needs are changing our produces' access to markets. Finding and keeping skilled persons employed in the swine industry continues to be difficult.

As AASV's Director of Communications, I am excited to continue working on these important issues and support AASV student and veterinary members. I am lucky to be able to learn from current leadership, and am excited to build and strengthen relationships within the AASV, the veterinary profession, the swine industry, and beyond.

Hearing your ideas will help me best serve our outstanding organization. As I begin this role, I want to hear from you. What is important to you? What are we doing well? What could we do better? What would you like to see more of? Less?

I have big shoes to fill, and I'll never match Harry's humor, but I hope to serve you well. I look forward to getting to know each of you better. Please don't be a stranger, and don't ever hesitate to reach out to me at canon@aasv.org.
