Kansas Approves Bonds for National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility Construction

Kansas approved the sale of $45.4 million in bonds to push ahead on construction of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility, The Associated Press reports.

The State Finance Council approved issuing $40 million, which will be matched by federal money, for the next phase of construction on the facility in Manhattan. An additional $5.4 million will be used for a grain mill at Kansas State University.

NBAF would be a center for federal research on animal diseases that could be transmitted to humans. The $650 million project is seen as playing a key role in advancing the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor.

Construction on NBAF is to begin next year.
