$3,300 Veterinary Internship Stipend

Attention ALL Current 1st and 2nd Year Veterinary Students
No Experience Required

The National Pork Industry Foundation (NPIF) has provided funding for six veterinary students to gain experience in the swine industry through a summer internship with a swine practitioner. The NPIF stipends are intended for any 1st or 2nd year veterinary student, regardless of any previous swine experiences. Students with little to no experience are encouraged to apply. The swine industry is rapidly changing and evolving and there is a demand for veterinarians dedicated to this industry. The role of the veterinarian is vitally important in producing a safe, wholesome pork product in an efficient and responsible manner. If you have an interest in exploring the field of swine veterinary medicine, this is the perfect opportunity – you will gain valuable experience and be paid well.

Requirements for receipt of the stipend:

  • Be a 1st or 2nd year student at a veterinary school in the United States
  • Be a student member of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) You may join here
  • Have an interest in gaining experience in the swine industry by completing a one-month internship with a swine practitioner
    • The AASV Student Recruitment Committee selects six AASV swine veterinarian members to serve as mentors. The Committee does its best to match the selected NPIF interns with appropriate mentors, getting input from both the students and mentors, and taking into consideration student goals, practice type, location, etc. The committee cannot guarantee availability of specific locations; the internship will take place wherever the mentor is located or will be traveling. Last year's mentors were located in Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Texas. If you have restrictions on your internship location, please indicate that when submitting your application.
