Position Announcement: Manager, Swine Biologicals

Zoetis seeks a Manager of Swine Biologicals based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading efforts in the design and implementation of swine studies to test the safety and efficacy of animal health biological products. In addition, the Manager of Swine Biologicals will be responsible for designing studies, interpreting results, and preparing reports; will have hands-on involvement in the conduct of clinical studies, such as vaccinations, making and recording clinical observations, and conducting necropsies; and will contribute to global project teams with the goal to license biological products.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading efforts in the design and implementation of swine studies to test the safety and efficacy of biological products. This includes obtaining clinical samples, conducting clinical evaluations, and writing procedures and study protocols.
  • Responsible for collecting and maintaining accurate documentation to meet regulatory requirements for conducting swine studies.
  • Responsible for interpreting and correlating clinical results and preparing reports.
  • Responsible for participation on global project teams with the goal to license animal health biological products.
  • Responsible for establishing contacts with external experts and third party contractors for the conduct of swine studies.
  • Hands on involvement in the conduct of clinical studies, such as vaccinations, making and recording clinical observations, and conducting necropsies.
  • Will provide leadership in the development of innovative challenge models for swine vaccines that are acceptable to the Regulatory Agency for registration of swine vaccines.
  • Will make clinical-related contributions to swine emerging diseases.
  • Travel: approximately 10 – 20% on an annual basis. Variable, depending upon project status.

Qualifications

Minimum: DVM with a minimum of 2 years of experience in swine medicine, swine infectious disease, or swine immunology.

Desirable: DVM with more than 4 years of swine veterinary practice experience. Relevant research experience or PhD with post-graduate training in swine clinical veterinary medicine or in a scientific discipline relevant to swine disease.

Other Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience with infectious disease.
  • Good network of swine veterinarians and producers.
  • A good understanding of disease pathogenesis and laboratory clinical assays.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • High motivation, demonstrated initiative, independent thinking, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in a research environment and/or in research/product development in the animal health industry.
  • Ability to meet multiple project timelines
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Experience with multiple software platforms and data management experience
